A private car is the door-to-door way to travel from The Peninsula Hong Kong to Macau: one seven-seat car picks you up on Salisbury Road, crosses the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge and drops you at your Macau hotel. The ferry is the classic alternative — TurboJET runs Kowloon to Macau Taipa from China Ferry Terminal with two round trips a day, and the frequent sailings to both Macau terminals leave from Sheung Wan on Hong Kong Island.

TL;DR
  • Private car is door to door from Salisbury Road to your Macau hotel, tolls and border fees included.
  • Reference fare: Tsim Sha Tsui to HZMB Macau Port, daytime HK$1,968 for the whole car.
  • China Ferry Terminal on Canton Road runs Kowloon to Macau Taipa, two round trips daily.
  • Sheung Wan (Shun Tak Centre) has the frequent sailings to Outer Harbour and Taipa.
  • The Gold Bus costs HK$65 daytime / HK$70 night but is port to port only.

Your options at a glance

The Peninsula stands on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, on the Kowloon side of Victoria Harbour. That geography decides your practical choices: the Kowloon ferry terminal sits on the same Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront at China Hong Kong City, the island's ferry terminal needs a trip across the harbour, and the bridge checkpoint lies near the airport on Lantau Island. Four ways to Macau compare like this from this address.

Private car over the bridge

A cross-boundary hire car is the only option here that moves you and your luggage together from the hotel door to a Macau address. Mayline Travel Services (美佳旅遊) runs the route with seven-seat luxury MPVs — mainly Toyota Alphard — for up to 6 passengers with 3 large suitcases or 6 small bags. Child seats are free; write the number and ages of the children in the booking notes and the seats are fitted before pick-up.

The fare is locked when you book and never rises for traffic, fuel or exchange rates. The booking page shows a one-way reference fare for 2026 of HK$1,968 daytime for Tsim Sha Tsui to HZMB Macau Port — the example is for 2 passengers on a non-holiday date with no extra stops or meet-and-greet. Your instant quote prices your exact trip, hotel door to Macau door, and that quote is final. A seamless transfer option changes cars once at a designated transfer point and costs about HK$300 less; both choices appear in your quote so you can compare.

At the border you stay in the car through the Hong Kong and Macau checkpoints with any travel document, including foreign passports — see the border section below for the passport rules that decide what happens at HZMB Macao Port. Tolls, tunnel charges and border fees are inside the online fare. Night pickups between 23:00 and 07:00 carry a surcharge of HK$100–400 on city routes like this one (HK$400 applies on Hong Kong Airport ⇄ Macau). Meet-and-greet with a name board is an optional HK$200 add-on.

Booking 3 or more days ahead guarantees the car. Inside 3 days, it is usually confirmed within about 5 minutes of payment, or you get a full refund. Cancel 6 hours or more before pick-up for a 95% refund; 3–6 hours is 50%; under 3 hours or after the driver sets off, no refund. If Mayline cannot supply a car, the refund is full.

Ferry from China Ferry Terminal

China Ferry Terminal occupies the 1/F departure hall of China Hong Kong City at 33 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui — the arrival hall is on the 2/F. It is the Kowloon-side terminal for TurboJET, and this is the detail most hotel pages get wrong: the Kowloon to Macau Taipa route only resumed on 1 December 2023 and currently runs two round trips a day — Kowloon to Taipa at 09:15 and 15:00, Taipa to Kowloon at 13:15 and 17:00, per TurboJET's announcement (checked 17 October 2026).

That frequency is the catch. Two sailings a day means the crossing must fit your day, and tickets are bought in advance. On the plus side, the terminal is on the same stretch of the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront as the hotel, luggage counters handle check-in, and the crossing takes about an hour. In Macau, Taipa Ferry Terminal sits next to the Macau Light Rapid Transit's Taipa Ferry Terminal stop (Exit A), with city buses outside; from there it is a taxi or shuttle to hotels on the Cotai strip or the peninsula.

For a family with four suitcases, count the changes honestly: taxi or car to the pier, luggage through check-in, immigration at both terminals, then transport again on the Macau side. The private car removes all of it.

Ferry from Sheung Wan

The Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal at Shun Tak Centre, 200 Connaught Road Central, Sheung Wan, is where the frequent sailings leave. TurboJET runs Sheung Wan to Macau Outer Harbour roughly hourly through the day with night sailings to 23:00, per its schedule effective 16 October 2026. TurboJET also serves Taipa (currently 10:30, 11:30, 15:00 and a 19:00 night sailing), and Cotai Water Jet sails Sheung Wan to Taipa throughout the day until 23:59.

From the hotel, getting there means crossing the harbour: take the MTR from Tsim Sha Tsui Station towards Central, change to the Island Line for Sheung Wan, and Shun Tak Centre connects to Sheung Wan station (Exit D), or take a taxi straight across the harbour tunnel. A standard weekday Taipa fare starts at HK$192 (as shown on Mayline's route page, sourced from the operators' fare pages on 8 October 2026); premium classes and weekend or night sailings cost more.

HZMB shuttle bus ("Gold Bus")

The HZMB shuttle bus crosses the bridge between HZMB Hong Kong Port and Macau Port for HK$65 daytime or HK$70 night per person, running 24 hours, according to the Transport Department and Macau DSAT pages. The catch from a Tsim Sha Tsui hotel is that the bus runs port to port only. HZMB Hong Kong Port sits near the airport on Lantau Island, so you first cross the harbour and drive out to the port by car or coach, get off twice at the checkpoints, and after the bridge still need a taxi or hotel shuttle to your Macau address.

For one traveller with a cabin bag this is the cheapest full crossing in the market. For a family with children and suitcases it has at least two changes on each side — this is where the whole-car fare earns its price.

Picking up at The Peninsula

The hotel's address is Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, at the junction with Nathan Road, opposite the harbour end of the district. The exact meeting point for a car — the porte-cochère or an inner street bay — should be confirmed with the hotel's door staff or left in your booking notes; never assume a bay without asking the property. Your driver's name, phone number and number plate appear on the My order page no later than 1 hour before pick-up, and one chat thread covers you, customer service and the driver in your own language.

If you arrive by Star Ferry from Central, the Kowloon pier is a short walk from the hotel, which also makes the Sheung Wan ferry leg easy to reach on foot and by crossing back — the Star Ferry itself does not sail to Macau.

Border and passport rules for Macau

Macau's Public Security Police Force runs immigration at HZMB Macao Port. For private-car travellers the rules are concrete:

  • Visa-free passport holders may stay in the car at HZMB Macao Port with a valid passport, documents handed to the officers.
  • Anyone who needs a Macau visa or Entry Permit clears at the arrival hall or the on-board passenger inspection hall, then rejoins the same car.
  • Passports of Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam holders need a Macau visa arranged in advance — the Public Security Police has applied this since 1 July 2010.
  • Your passport must be valid for at least 90 days beyond your intended stay in Macau.
  • Leaving Hong Kong at HZMB Hong Kong Port, and any return journey from Macau to Hong Kong, works differently: officers decide on the day whether passengers step out of the car. No operator can promise "you never leave the car".

On the ferry routes, immigration happens inside each terminal in both directions — bring the passport for every traveller, children included.

What the journey costs

FAQ

How much is a car from The Peninsula Hong Kong to Macau?

The booking page shows Tsim Sha Tsui to HZMB Macau Port at daytime HK$1,968 for the whole car as a one-way reference (2 passengers, non-holiday, no extra stops or meet-and-greet). Your instant quote prices your exact hotel-to-hotel trip and is final.

Is there a ferry from Kowloon to Macau?

Yes. TurboJET sails from China Ferry Terminal at China Hong Kong City, 33 Canton Road, to Macau Taipa. The route resumed on 1 December 2023 and runs two round trips a day: 09:15 and 15:00 to Taipa, 13:15 and 17:00 back.

Do I need a visa to enter Macau?

It depends on your passport. Holders of Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam passports need a Macau visa in advance. Most other nationalities enter visa-free or with a visa on arrival; confirm your case with Macau's Public Security Police.

Can I stay in the car at the border?

Entering Macau at HZMB Macao Port, visa-free passport holders stay in the car while officers check documents. Anyone needing a visa or Entry Permit clears at the arrival hall or on-board inspection hall and rejoins the same car. Leaving Hong Kong, officers decide on the day.

How many suitcases fit in the car?

A seven-seat MPV takes up to 6 passengers with 3 large suitcases or 6 small bags. Extra luggage or sports gear? Mention it in the booking notes so a suitable car is assigned.

Is the night surcharge the same on hotel routes as from the airport?

No. Pick-ups between 23:00 and 07:00 add HK$400 on Hong Kong Airport ⇄ Macau and HK$100–400 on city routes such as Tsim Sha Tsui to Macau. If your booked pick-up time is already inside that window, it is in your quote.

Where does the Kowloon ferry leave from?

China Ferry Terminal, 1/F China Hong Kong City, 33 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Arrivals from Macau use the 2/F hall. Check current sailings with TurboJET before you go.

One last thing

If the Kowloon ferry is part of your plan, check the return sailing before you fix the outbound: Taipa to Kowloon runs at 13:15 and 17:00, so a day trip by ferry has to catch the 13:15 back or use another route home. A private car removes that arithmetic — you leave when your day in Macau ends.
