Choose Macau International Airport if its available flights suit a Macau-focused trip; choose Hong Kong International Airport if its flights or a combined Hong Kong–Macau itinerary suit you better. Compare the complete flight-and-ground journey before paying, including entry requirements, luggage and the final hotel connection.
- Compare available flights and the full onward journey, not just the arrival airport.
- Macau International Airport has an Airport Station on the Macau LRT Taipa Line.
- HKIA SkyPier transfers have eligibility rules and are separate from landside travel after Hong Kong entry.
- Mayline's airport–Macau reference fare is not a Macau Airport–Hong Kong city fare.
- Mayline suits travellers choosing a whole-car passenger transfer with a professional driver.
Why your airport choice changes the journey
Landing in Macau means your arrival formalities take place in Macau. Landing in Hong Kong and continuing landside to Macau introduces a separate cross-boundary journey and the entry requirements applicable to both places.
An eligible restricted-area transfer at Hong Kong International Airport is a different arrangement. Decide whether you qualify before leaving the restricted area or collecting baggage; it is not interchangeable with an ordinary car pickup outside arrivals.
Compare the two arrival options
| Decision | Macau International Airport | Hong Kong International Airport |
|---|---|---|
| Best for | A Macau-focused visit when available flights suit | A trip whose flights or Hong Kong stop suit this arrival |
| Continuing to Macau | You are already in Macau; arrange the local hotel connection | Choose an eligible airport transfer or a landside cross-boundary journey |
| Rail option | Airport Station on the Macau LRT Taipa Line | Hong Kong airport rail does not itself take you into Macau |
| Booked-car arrangement | A local Macau journey or a separately quoted cross-boundary journey | An airport–Macau passenger transfer for the specified addresses and time |
| Key limitation | Check current flights and your final local connection | Check transfer eligibility, border formalities and the complete ground journey |
Neither airport wins for every traveller. Use current flight availability and your own itinerary rather than assuming that a particular airport always has, or lacks, a direct flight to your home city.
Plan the journey before choosing a ticket
1. Compare flights you can actually book
Check your dates, departure airport, baggage allowance and any airline connections. A lower ticket price is not necessarily a lower total trip cost once separate ground transport is included.
- Compare the full outward and return itineraries.
- Check airline baggage rules separately from car capacity.
- Include the final hotel address in your ground-transport comparison.
2. Check how you will leave Macau Airport
The Macau LRT's official route information lists Airport Station on the Taipa Line. Check the station arrangement, current operating hours and connection to your destination rather than assuming that rail ends at your hotel's entrance.
The airport's transport directory is another starting point for local transport. Public transport is a reasonable choice when the connections fit your destination and you can handle your luggage; a booked car is useful when you prefer an agreed pickup and address-based journey.
- Locate the hotel relative to the station or stop you intend to use.
- Check service availability for the actual arrival time.
- Confirm any hotel shuttle with the hotel instead of assuming it exists.
3. Distinguish Hong Kong airport transfer arrangements
HKIA's SkyPier Terminal Transfer Coach guidance states that passengers continuing to Macau by that service must remain in the restricted area. Passengers who have already completed Hong Kong immigration cannot return to use it.
The guidance requires the appropriate same-day arrival flight documentation, a transfer-coach ticket, valid travel documents and any required destination visa. Baggage transfer and check-in deadlines also apply; read the current airport instructions for your own arrival rather than relying on a generic transfer description.
A landside private-car transfer is different: you complete the applicable Hong Kong arrival procedure and meet the driver under the booking's pickup arrangement. For onward ferry transfers, verify current airport eligibility and service availability separately; do not assume a city ferry ticket is an airport transfer ticket.
- Select the restricted-area or landside arrangement deliberately.
- Check baggage handling before leaving the transfer area.
- Confirm what happens if your flight arrival misses the selected service.
4. Compare the complete bridge journey
The HZMB Hong Kong Port's official transport guidance distinguishes port-to-port shuttle buses, fixed-stop cross-boundary coaches and pre-booked point-to-point hire cars. These are different purchases.
A shuttle itinerary includes your journey to the departure port and onward transport from the arrival port. A private-car quote specifies the passenger pickup and destination; it does not remove immigration checks or guarantee a crossing time.
- Include transport at both ends of a shuttle or coach trip.
- Compare the total travelling-party cost with a whole-car quote.
- Allow for road and checkpoint conditions without treating an estimate as a guarantee.
5. Confirm the car arrangement and luggage
Mayline's direct Hong Kong–Macau option uses the same car door to door. The seamless transfer option involves one change of car at a designated transfer point and is about HK$300 less; compare the arrangements in the instant quote.
Seven-seat MPVs, mainly Toyota Alphard, have seven seats including the driver's. Each carries up to 6 passengers with 3 large suitcases or 6 small bags; child seats are free. Declare bulky items or mobility needs before paying rather than assuming the quoted capacity covers them.
- Select direct or one-change transport explicitly.
- Count passengers and all bags together.
- Confirm any assistance or unusual equipment requirement separately.
Understand the reference fares
| Service | Approved reference | Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Hong Kong International Airport–Macau, either direction | Daytime from HK$1,888 per whole car | Depending on traffic and time of travel; your instant quote is final |
| One-change airport–Macau option | About HK$300 less than direct | One vehicle change at a designated point; compare actual quotes |
| Night pickup on the airport–Macau route | +HK$400 | 23:00–07:00 Hong Kong time |
| Local point-to-point journeys within Macau | From HK$268 per whole car | Not a cross-boundary fare; obtain the quote for your addresses |
The Hong Kong airport reference is not a price for Macau Airport to Hong Kong city. Enter the actual pickup, destination, date and time; your instant quote is final. Read the pricing conditions before paying.
Point-to-point fares include tolls, tunnel and border fees and are not raised for traffic, fuel or exchange-rate movements. Added stops, waiting beyond the allowance or an actual pickup moving into the night window can create separate charges under the pricing conditions.
Journeys within Macau are arranged by our licensed Macau partner. Do not apply local fares to a cross-boundary journey or point-to-point inclusions to hourly charter.
Check passports before booking either route
Check the current entry requirements for each passenger and each place they will enter. Macau and Hong Kong have separate immigration arrangements; the permitted stay depends on the traveller's documents, not a universal allowance for all foreign passports.
For a car entering Macau at HZMB Macao Port, nationals of Macau visa-free countries may stay in the car with a valid passport. Anyone needing a Macau visa or Entry Permit clears at the arrival hall or on-board passenger inspection hall, then rejoins the same car.
Ordinary passport holders from Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam need a Macau visa in advance. The Macau Public Security Police's guidance sets out those arrangements. Leaving Hong Kong or travelling from Macau to Hong Kong, officers decide procedures on the day; no booking promises that passengers never leave the car.
Booking and flight changes
Mayline is MAYLINE TRAVEL SERVICES LIMITED, operating since 1990 under Hong Kong Travel Agent Licence No. 351203. Airport pickups include flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting from actual landing.
Bookings made 3 or more days ahead have a guaranteed car. Inside 3 days, confirmation usually arrives within about 5 minutes after payment, or a full refund if a car cannot be supplied. The driver's name, phone and plate appear on My order no later than 1 hour before pickup.
Payment uses Stripe's encrypted checkout; card details never touch Mayline's website. Cancellation at least 6 hours before pickup receives 95%, at 3–6 hours receives 50%, and under 3 hours or after the driver sets off receives no refund; inability to supply a car receives a full refund.
Mistakes to avoid
- Comparing airfare without the onward ground journey.
- Leaving the Hong Kong airport restricted area before checking SkyPier eligibility.
- Assuming Macau Airport has no LRT station.
- Applying an airport reference fare to a different cross-boundary route.
- Booking a flight connection around an unsupported fixed driving time.
FAQ
Should I fly into Hong Kong or Macau?
Compare available flights and the complete journey to your final address. Macau arrival avoids a Hong Kong-to-Macau crossing for a Macau-only stay; Hong Kong may suit your flight options or a combined itinerary.
Does Macau Airport have an LRT station?
Yes. Airport Station is listed on the Macau LRT Taipa Line. Check operating hours and your final hotel connection before relying on it.
Can I use the SkyPier transfer coach after Hong Kong immigration?
No. HKIA states that passengers who have completed immigration cannot return to use the restricted-area transfer coach. Check eligibility before leaving the transfer area.
What is the Hong Kong Airport–Macau private-car reference fare?
Daytime fares start from HK$1,888 per whole car, depending on traffic and time of travel; your instant quote is final. The reference does not price Macau Airport to Hong Kong city.
Does every private transfer use the same vehicle?
No. The direct option uses the same car door to door; the seamless transfer option requires one change at a designated transfer point. Select the arrangement shown in the quote.
Can I arrive in Macau and depart from Hong Kong?
You can plan that itinerary if your flights and travel documents permit it. Arrange the cross-boundary leg separately and check the airline's check-in requirements; a car booking does not guarantee a flight connection.

One last thing
An airport transfer can mean either restricted-area transit or an ordinary journey after immigration. Choosing the correct one before landing prevents a booking that you cannot use.
