The Hong Kong Airport–Macau bonded coach (the "HK Airport Direct" transfer coach) is for same-day air passengers only: you must hold a ticket for a flight arriving at or departing from Hong Kong International Airport on the day of travel, plus a valid coach ticket. Travellers who have cleared Hong Kong immigration, residents starting their journey in Hong Kong, and anyone without a same-day air ticket cannot use it.

TL;DR
  • Bonded coach is for same-day air passengers only, with a valid coach ticket.
  • Once you clear Hong Kong immigration you cannot return and use it.
  • Adult fare HK$/MOP 280 one way, one bag up to 23 kg and 158 cm included.
  • 22 departures each way daily since 1 August 2026, roughly hourly from 08:30.
  • For everyone else the landside route applies: car, bus or Golden Bus shuttle.

Who can use the Hong Kong Airport–Macau bonded bus?

The service is operated as an airside transfer product. Hong Kong International Airport's mainland-connection pages and the operator's own travel instructions state the conditions, checked on 18 October 2026:

RequirementDetail
HKIA to Macau directionTicket, e-ticket or boarding pass stub for a flight arriving the same day, plus a valid coach ticket
Macau to HKIA directionA confirmed same-day departure with an eligible airline, including midnight flights
Travel documentPassport with the required validity and, where applicable, the Macau visa or entry authorisation
Immigration statusYou must not have cleared Hong Kong immigration or reclaimed baggage
LuggageNothing left in the airport's non-restricted area
Booking windowTickets can be booked up to 30 days before departure

Staff tickets, companion tickets, complimentary tickets and unconfirmed or open tickets are not accepted on the Macau to HKIA direction. Passengers whose flight departs at or before 13:15 may take the last coach of the previous day, for the airlines that participate in the early-flight scheme published by the airport.

Who cannot use it

The coach is not a general Hong Kong–Macau bus service. You cannot use it if you:

  • Start your journey in Hong Kong, because SkyPier and the bonded coach sit inside the airport's restricted area and the service is not applicable to passengers originating from Hong Kong.
  • Have already walked through Hong Kong immigration or collected checked bags. The operator states plainly that passengers who have completed immigration procedures will not be able to return to the E2 ticket counter or use the coach.
  • Are not flying that day. The same-day air ticket is a condition, not a formality.

For those travellers the landside route through the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge is the working option, whether that is a private cross-border car, a public bus to the bridge followed by the 24-hour Golden Bus shuttle, or a city ferry.

Timetable and fares

Since 1 August 2026 the operator runs 22 regular departures each way daily. The published timetable, checked 18 October 2026, runs from 07:30 to 21:15 out of Macau and 08:30 to 21:30 out of Hong Kong International Airport, with the coach crossing taking about 45 minutes.

Fare table (SkyPier Terminal to/from HZMB Macao Port)MOP/HK$
Adult280
Senior (65+) and child (2–12)210
Child under 230

The fare includes one piece of baggage up to 23 kilograms and 158 centimetres in total dimensions. Each extra piece costs HK$90, and each overweight piece up to 32 kilograms also costs HK$90. The operator reserves the right to refuse overweight, oversized or dangerous items.

How the journey works from Hong Kong Airport

Arriving passengers heading to Macau skip Hong Kong immigration entirely:

  1. Do not clear immigration or collect checked bags. Go to the E2 Transfer Coach Ticket Counter in Terminal 1; the counter opens at 06:30.
  2. Check in at the counter. With checked baggage, complete check-in at least 60 minutes before the coach departs and show the airline's baggage receipt; without checked baggage, at least 30 minutes. The operator recommends about 90 minutes between flight arrival and coach departure.
  3. Checked bags are transferred to the SkyPier Terminal by the handling agent; collect them at the SkyPier baggage claim before boarding.
  4. Take the coach over the bridge to HZMB Macao Port and clear Macau entry there.

At HZMB Macao Port the Macau Public Security Police Force controls entry. Nationals of Macau visa-free countries may stay in a direct private car while it is processed, but on the coach everyone clears the arrival hall as normal. Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam passports must hold a Macau visa issued in advance through a Chinese embassy or consulate; there is no visa on arrival for those nationalities.

From Macau to the airport: check-in at the port

The reverse direction adds an upstream check-in option at the HZMB Macau Port departure hall. Participating airlines allow passengers to check in baggage, collect boarding passes and obtain the Air Passenger Departure Tax refund voucher at the port's Hong Kong International Airport check-in counter, arriving at least 60 minutes before the coach departs, with the port check-in counter requiring passengers at least 90 minutes before scheduled coach departure as a general recommendation.

Airlines providing upstream check-in from Macau include Cathay Pacific, Greater Bay Airlines, HK Express, Hong Kong Airlines, EVA Air, China Airlines, Japan Airlines, Emirates, Lufthansa, SWISS, Garuda Indonesia, Air New Zealand, All Nippon Airways, Vietnam Airlines and Thai Airways, per the operator's current list. Passengers on Cathay Pacific flights bound for the United States cannot use the upstream service and must check in at SkyPier Terminal.

Refund rules

The operator's refund policy differs from a private car's: tickets for the day of departure are non-refundable except when the airline cancels the flight; cancelling 1 to 10 days before departure costs a HKD/MOP 60 handling fee, and more than 10 days ahead costs HKD/MOP 30. Tropical cyclone signal no. 8 or red or black rainstorm warnings can suspend service without advance notice.

When the bonded coach is and is not the right choice

The coach suits a single traveller with one light bag who lands in the morning or early afternoon and wants to skip Hong Kong immigration formalities. It does not suit a family with several large suitcases, because bags above the 23-kilogram, 158-centimetre limit are refused or charged and you handle them yourself at SkyPier. It also stops early: the last airport departure leaves at 21:30, so a late-night landing cannot use it.

A whole private car handles those cases. Mayline (美佳旅遊), a licensed Hong Kong travel agency, Licence No. 351203, sells the Hong Kong Airport ⇄ Macau car from HK$1,888 in the daytime per whole car, locked at booking, with up to 6 passengers and 3 large suitcases or 6 small bags; a seamless-transfer option costs about HK$300 less. Between 23:00 and 07:00 Hong Kong time a night supplement of HK$400 applies. Your instant quote is final.

The next step: check live prices and book your car at Mayline's booking page.

FAQ

Who can use the Hong Kong Airport to Macau bonded bus?

Same-day air passengers only: a ticket for a flight arriving at or departing from Hong Kong International Airport on the day of travel, plus a valid coach ticket. Passengers who have cleared Hong Kong immigration or are starting their journey in Hong Kong cannot use it.

How much does the HK Airport Direct coach cost?

The adult fare is MOP/HK$280 one way between SkyPier Terminal and HZMB Macao Port, including one bag up to 23 kilograms and 158 centimetres. Seniors and children aged 2 to 12 pay MOP/HK$210, and each extra bag costs HK$90.

How often does the bonded coach run in 2026?

Since 1 August 2026 the operator runs 22 departures each way daily, from 07:30 to 21:15 out of Macau and 08:30 to 21:30 out of the airport, with the crossing taking about 45 minutes.

Do I go through Hong Kong immigration on the bonded coach?

No. The coach leaves from the restricted area and you travel to HZMB Macao Port without Hong Kong immigration formalities, then clear Macau entry at the port.

What happens with my checked bags on the bonded coach?

You show the airline's baggage receipt at the E2 counter at least 60 minutes before departure. The bags are moved to the SkyPier Terminal, and you collect them at the SkyPier baggage claim before boarding.

Can a family with large suitcases use the bonded coach?

Only within the limits: one bag per fare up to 23 kilograms and 158 centimetres, extras at HK$90 each. Larger parties with several big bags usually book a whole cross-border car instead.

Can I use the bonded coach after clearing Hong Kong immigration?

No. The operator states that passengers who have completed immigration procedures cannot return to the E2 ticket counter or use the transfer coach service.

One last thing

The eligibility rules are enforced at the counter, not by the booking website: an online ticket does not override a missing same-day air ticket. If your itinerary has an overnight in Hong Kong before Macau, plan the landside route from the start, because the coach will refuse you on the day regardless of what the booking confirmation says.
